Nokia 5730 XpressMusic Hits The Markets

The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is finally out in the markets and is expected to top the charts for a few upcoming months. The phone is based on Series 60 Symbian OS (3rd edition). The phone incorporates a QWERTY keyboard, dedicated music control keys, a numeric keypad and a 3.2 Megapixel Carl-Zeiss Camera. It is available in four variants to choose from namely Black-Red, Monochrome Black, Gray-Blue and Black-Pink. The device includes with it an 8GB MicroSD card that is available with the box.

Talking of its display, the phone has got a 2.4" 240 x 320 color QVGA display that can display upto 16 million colors. The ambient light sensor and backlight support the display features further.

Speaking of the camera, the word Carl-Ziess itself speaks a good word. It has got an integrated 3.2 Megapixel main camera with Tessar optics and a secondary VGA camera (that's almost invisible) for video conferencing. The camera is capable of generating JPEG and EXIF format images. The main camera is capable of high quality VGA (640 x 480) video recording at 15 fps in MPEG4 format.

The whole assembly is encapsulated in a case measuring 112 x 51 x 15.4 mm and weighs a mere 135 grams including the battery. The phone is Bluetooth 2.0 compatible and the calls are passed over VoIP 3.0. You can stream videos in 3GPP and CIF formats. The powerhouse of the phone is a BL-4U Li-ion battery that can stand 6.5 hours of 3G web browsing, 5.8 hours of video playback, 2.7 hours of video recording and 25 hours of audio playback in offline mode. Nokia has launched the phone with an expected price tag of $366.

Motorola's New MC55 Business phone

The Motorola Inc. is finally out with the new addition to its series of Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDAs) with the launch of the new MC55 business phone. The phone is focussed basically on business personnels and field workers.The EDA is based on Windows mobile 6.1.

The device encorporates a 2.0 Megapixel camera, a 2D scanner and a barcode reader with it. The company guarantees the phone to be enough shock resistant to be carelessly dropped on a concrete flooring. The phone is available in keypads varying from numeric to QWERTY for english, AZERTY for french and QWERTZ for german.

Finally a good news for the enterprise customers- The phone's available in two variants. The MC5590 works through VoIP for phone calls. On the other hand, the MC5574 does the same through a 2.5G GSM modem that is active for AT&T and T-Mobile systems. Speaking of connectivity and compatibility, the phone has a Bluetooth 2.0 compatible handset. The device has a GPS navigation service that ensures that you don't get lost (unless your GPRS services are switched on. :/)

As far as the display is concerned, the mobile has got a 3.5" 320 x 240 color touchscreen. The whole assembly is sealed into a case measuring 5.78 x 3.03 x 1.06 "inches" (Yep! i know its a "bit" thick! :P) without the antenna. Both the models consist of a 520 MHz processor to ek out the best of performance- After all its a business phone.

As is the case with the other Enterprise handsets, the customers get a service package that insures the phone of any accidental damage of any part. Now, something that concerns ones pocket very much, the cost of the phone will range between some $ 1695 and $ 2035. (It does concern your pocket! :O) The MC5590 is already available in the markets. The MC5574 will soon be available, hopefully by the end of this March.

Well, its time to talk about CES 2009, and whats the first word that slips out of me- "The Mobinnova Ice." Yes, its the trendy looking smartphone currently rocking the CES 2009. They say that it's got the mobifeel technology, that integrates the touchscreen with the touch receptors. So now you feel the reactions of your phone on your fingertips. Isn't that some made for each other type? :P

Welcome back to the world of the 2-way sliders with the successor of Nokia N96- The Nokia N85 Multimedia Phone. An absolute mobile phone of its own class weighing just 128 grams and occupying just 103 x 50 x 16 mm. It houses a Two-way slider with spring assistance mechanism.

USB 3.0 Creeps Closer

Intel has released a new set of tools that will allow hardware vendors to build chips for the upcoming version of the USB(Universal Serial Bus) interface. The Extension Host Controller Interface(xHCI) draft specification allows the USB host controllers to communicate with a software stack, allowing developers to communicate with the USB 3.0 hardware and build controller chips for devices.



USB 3.0 is targeted at ten times the current bitrate, reaching roughly 4.8 Gb/s (600MB/s) by utilizing two additional high-speed differential pairs for "Superspeed" mode at a clock frequency of 2.5GHz, and with the possibility for optical interconnect. The two new differential pairs make the cable about as thick as an ethernet cable and provide full-duplex transfers. The USB 3.0 specification was 90% complete as of August 13, 2008 and commercial products are expected to arrive in 2009 or 2010. USB 3.0 is designed to be backwards-compatible with both USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 and employs more efficient protocols such as 8b/10b encoding to conserve power while increasing the maximum power available for connected devices.



Intel describes the interface as a simplified kit for integrating the the "SuperSpeed" USB connections. Intel is hoping to push USB 3.0 as the connection standard for the HD media devices that demand larger pipelines for data transfers. The company counts Microsoft, AMD, Dell, and nVidia among the early backers for SuperSpeed USB. Intel hopes to release the next xHCI draft specification by the end of the year.

The New Nokia N96 16GB Multimedia Phone

Hello once again. Guess what! This time I am here with the new Nokia N96 Multimedia Phone and literally speaking I am spellbound over its features. Writing this article I don't know where to start with-"It has got such a bundle of features that you won't believe its a phone."



Starting with the camera, a 5.0MP is not a joke to work with. Yup,it has got a 5.0MP camera supported by Carl Zeiss Tessar™ lens optics. It has an amazing capability to capture images of size 2593 x 1944 pixels. Possesses an auto-focus and auto-aperture feature with a 2.8F aperture. Again a Dual-LED camera flash, video light, recording indicator and auto-focus assist light just as the currently approaching camera versions.Supported image formats are JPEG and EXIF. Also has a secondary VGA camera which is not much to be spoken about.



Following Video capture,capable of recording in MPEG-4 up to VGA at 30 fps Digital Video Stabilization (DVS). Intel I7-The Gamers' Heaven

Intel’s next generation of desktop and mobile processors will retain the chip giant’s Core brand, the company said this morning. No great surprise there, but they won’t be ‘Core 3′ parts.



Nehalem architecture chips will be marked ‘i7′, instead, though Intel further messed it up by telling us to expect other such codes for different next-gen CPUs as the roll-out continues through 2009.

The logos Intel published today suggest that while it will continue to offer Extreme-class CPUs, aimed at gamers, they’ll be distinguished visually simply by a black version of the blue logo to be attached to boxes and machines containing regular desktop Core i7s.



There’s logic to the use of ‘i7′: just as Pentium was Intel’s fifth-generation processor architecture, so the new Cores will be its seventh major x86 CPU design.

The fourth quarter will see the introduction of a pair of mainstream desktop quad-core parts and a single Extreme chip. All three processors are codenamed ‘Bloomfield’. The Extreme part is set to clock at 3.2GHz and connects directly to 1333MHz DDR 3 memory. The other two Bloomfields will run at 2.93MHz and 2.66GHz, respectively, and connect to 1066MHz DDR 3.All three chips can link to three channels of memory.

Nehalem chips will use Intel's new QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) bus. In the case of the Extreme CPU, the bus is tuned to deliver 6.4bn transfers per second (GT/s), while the mainstream desktop chips' QPI bus runs to 4.8GT/s, it's claimed.

All three CPUs clip into LGA1366 sockets. They contain 8MB of L3 cache shared across all four cores - each core has its own complement of L1 and L2 cache; 256KB of the latter - and support all the usual Intel extension technologies except TXT (Trusted eXecution Technology). They're all said to have a power and thermal envelope of 130W.
